I love the F-word!!!

How was your St. Patricks' Day? Did you celebrate? Do you feel like crap today? If you do, you're not alone. As an Irish girl from Milwaukee (aka, Beer Town), I have certainly drank my fair share of green beer on the 17th of March. Hell, I probably drank your share, too! I also lived in Chicago for 10 years, which as you may know, was bright green yesterday. So I am no stranger to a party :-) Now, I barely drink alcohol anymore, so there was none for me last night - but no judgment if you imbibed a little (or a lot)! The reason I bring up alcohol is to talk about that F-word again...FAT. A few weeks ago, I wrote about how I have shifted my relationship with fat and how that has helped me live a happier and healthier life. But why exactly is that? One of the main reasons is that fat protects our bodies from toxins. Ever drank too much and suddenly found yourself craving greasy foods to soak up the alcohol? That was your body's inner wisdom calling out for a buffer to help protect you from the alcohol you had just consumed. Or remember how I told you that when I first "went raw", I ate cashew ice cream every night for dinner? It's because I was detoxing like a mo' fo' and needed the fat to coat those toxins as they left my system. You see, our bodies store toxins in our fat cells to keep them away from our organs. When we start burning fat during a diet or a detox, those toxins are released from those cells and can be reabsorbed into our system - unless they have a safe vehicle to carry them out of our bodies. What other benefits do good fats have? Check out this article that blows the "Fat is bad" nonsense out of the water. "But Emily, I am at a healthy weight so I don't need to worry so much about what I eat." Au contraire, mon frere! We all need to focus on getting enough healthy fats in our diet. You don't want to be "skinny fat", do you? This awesome article and video explain the phenomenon in detail - totally worth the read. So get your fat on! Focus on healthy fats like the ones found in this easy recipe for Paleo Peppermint Patties from Lisi's Worth Every Chew blog. And soon you will have even more healthy choices with Shift Bars!
