How to tell your mood

"For every situation, there is a suitable line from a song." Unknown
A funny thing happened to me this morning. I woke up with a song in my head that I couldn't shake.

Now, waking up with a song stuck in my head is not a new occurrence - it happens quite frequently, actually.

The funny thing is that today, I finally figured out why.

By the way, the song in question was "Stressed Out" by Twenty One Pilots. Have you heard it yet? It's starts off trying to make you laugh:

I wish I found some better sounds no one’s ever heard, I wish I had a better voice that sang some better words, I wish I found some chords in an order that is new, I wish I didn't have to rhyme every time I sang.

But as you continue to listen, the lyrics paint a picture of what a lot of us deal with on a daily basis:

I was told when I get older all my fears would shrink, But now I’m insecure and I care what people think.Wish we could turn back time, to the good ol’ days, When our momma sang us to sleep but now we’re stressed out.

Out of student loans and treehouse homes we all would take the latter.

Used to dream of outer space but now they’re laughing at our face, Saying, “wake up, you need to make money."

In the past, I would have chalked up having that song in my head to the fact that it's on the radio all the time and I like the beat. But this morning, I went deeper. I asked myself, "Is that a good reflection of how I'm feeling today?"

And the answer that came back was a clear "yes."

If all the world is vibration (which I believe to be true) and music is vibration, doesn't it make sense that our Inner Being would try to let us know where we're really at by picking a song to play in our heads that's a vibrational match to what we're feeling?

So as an experiment, I decided to change the playlist in my head. To raise my vibe, I went to one of my favorite pick-me-up songs, "Best Day of My Life" by American Authors.

For those of you who have never heard it, check it out - it's awesome! Some of the lyrics are:

I had a dream so big and loud I jumped so high I touched the clouds I stretched my hands out to the sky We danced with monsters through the nightI'm never gonna look back Whoa, I'm never gonna give it up No, please don't wake me now This is gonna be the best day of my life This is gonna be the best day of my life

I'll be honest, it took awhile for the tide to turn in my head from stressed out to dancing with monsters. But it did happen, and it felt great that I was able to consciously change my vibe and therefore, the trajectory of the rest of my day.

So the next time a song pops in your head, ask yourself, "Is this giving me a clue about how I'm feeling about something in my life?" And know you can always change the channel. CLICK TO TWEET
