Get high the natural way...

"Make the most of the Indian hemp seed and sow it everywhere." George Washington to his gardener

It can be used for everything - from fuel to construction material to textiles to snacks. In Canada, the oil alone brought in $1 billion last year.  Can you guess what it is?

Hey, hey,'s hemp!

We here at Shift Bars love the ol' hemp seed and use it in all of our bars. Why?

According to Lynn Osburn, "[H]emp seed, contain[s] all the essential amino acids and essential fatty acids necessary to maintain healthy human life. No other single plant source has the essential amino acids in such an easily digestible form, nor has the essential fatty acids in as perfect a ratio to meet human nutritional needs."

Hemp seeds are also high in:
  • fiber
  • magnesium
  • iron
  • zinc
  • potassium
  • even chlorophyll!
And, unlike many other nuts and seeds, hemp seeds are very rarely allergenic, which I personally love.

Hemp is also one of the most eco-friendly crops in the world. It's pest-resistant and doesn't require herbicides because the shoots grow so close together, they out-compete weeds. The roots prevent erosion and the leaves return nitrogen to the soil. Talk about a team player!
After decades of being unfairly criminalized, things are beginning to shift. In fact, my home state of North Carolina just became first to legalize hemp crops, which is expected to be a huge economic boon for the state. Why do you think Thomas Jefferson himself said, "Hemp is of first necessity to the wealth and protection of this country"?
The guys in the video below sure seem to dig hemp, too...

What's your favorite use of hemp or hemp seeds? Mine, of course, is Shift Bars - but I'm always on the lookout for some good recipes. Please share yours on our Facebook pageOr share a picture of you stylin' in your favorite hemp shirt. I love me some eco-friendly fashion!
Hemp it up, baby! Emily
