Chase this with all your heart...

“If you can't figure out your purpose, find out your passion. For your passion will lead you right into your purpose." T.D. Jakes

"What's my purpose?"

If you've been doing the self-development thang for awhile (and odds are you have if you're reading this email), you've probably asked yourself that question a few times.

Or a few thousand.

I know I have.

I've read books, gone to seminars, and consulted with gurus in order to find out what I was supposed to be doing with my life, what contribution I could make that would have the greatest impact on the world.

And judged myself a whole lot for not knowing what exactly it was.

Then I heard something that changed everything for me. A quote from Abraham-Hicks:

"All is well. You did not come here to fix a broken world. The world is not broken. You came here to live a wonderful life. And if you can learn to relax a little and let it all in, you will begin to see the universe present you with all that you have asked for."

Talk about feeling like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders! You mean I don't have to save the world, I can just follow what feels good to me and that could be my purpose?!?

A novel idea, me thinks.

Case in point: my reading and book signing for "Eat Pray Love Made Me Do It" last week.

Speaking to an amazingly enthusiastic crowd at Malaprop's Bookstore in downtown Asheville about my experiences and how they shaped me into the person I've become, I felt a high like no other.

Call it what you will - I was in the zone, in the flow, fulfilling my purpose.

I was ME.

On the way to the event, I thought back to the person who had started the journey described in my essay and felt such compassion for her. I wanted to reach back in time and tell her, "Just keep going, this is going to work out better than you can even imagine right now!"

But she wouldn't have been ready to hear that then. She was scared, stuck and sick.

When I looked at all the steps in between then and now, I saw for myself how true T.D. Jakes words are - if you follow what you're passionate about, what feels good to you, you're bound to live your purpose. CLICK TO TWEET

What I've discovered is that my purpose is to inspire. Period. Short and sweet.

I live my life to inspire people to go after their dreams. I don't care what your dreams are - it doesn't matter to me if it's acting or sugar-free energy bars or something completely different - it just matters to me that it lights you up inside.

I believe the Universe is leaving us little bread crumbs that will lead us to our happiest, most fulfilling life - if we only have the courage to follow them. And those bread crumbs are the things we are passionate about.

Do you love animals, or cooking, or knitting, or helping people with their taxes? Whatever it is, follow it. It will lead you to your bliss, which is all your purpose really is.

Yes, your purpose is to have the happiest life possible. If not, what's the point?

So tell me, what's your purpose? Have you always known it, or did you stumble on it while doing something you loved? I'd love to hear all about it over on the Shift Bars Facebook pageBecause anything that makes you happy, makes me happy...

Purposefully yours,
Emily
